CCDHR is a nonprofit, non-governmental
organization, independent of any government influence, political ideology,
and religious persuasion. Established in August 2006, CCDHR is dedicated to
improving and transforming the Cameroonian society through innovative
research, practice, and programs based on a collection of factors necessary
to foster an overall improvement in human dignity. At the core of our work
is the need to build a strong civil society on the belief that this is
critical for the democratic transformation needed in Cameroon.
CCDHR
adopts a comprehensive approach through a combination of committed
programs in
democracy,
human rights, rule of law, good governance, and
public accountability. We recognize that respect for human rights is a
vital part of human contentment; that democratic participation is an
inseparable value of good and accountable governance; that peace and
stability are integral elements of human interaction; that development
through active participation is necessary to bring meaningful
improvement in the lives of people; and that humanitarian assistance is
an invaluable means to reach those who are economically and socially
outside the reach of mainstream services and support - such as the poor,
orphans, the sick, the disabled, street children, rural populations, and
other vulnerable or marginalized groups.
To improve and
safeguard the human dignity of everyone by promoting and supporting the
principles of
democracy,
human rights, rule of law, good
governance, and
public accountability in the Republic of Cameroon.
To achieve this
mission, CCDHR does the following:
-
Engage in
activities that promote and defend democratic values;
-
Engage in
activities that promote and defend human and civil rights;
-
Engage in
activities that promote rule of law and separation of powers;
-
Engage in
activities that promote, advance, and preserve good governance;
-
Engage in
activities that promote public accountability and transparency in
government;
-
Advocate,
petition, campaign, and publicize issues related to democracy, human
rights, rule of law, good governance, and public accountability;
-
Engage in
educational activities such as the publication of public interest
material, and conduct public discussions such as conferences related
to the purposes of the Organization;
-
Engage in any
other activities related to or incidental to achieving the
mission, vision, and objectives of the Organisation.
CCDHR’s vision is of a
Cameroon in which everyone enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in
international conventions and national laws; a Cameroon in which
democratic principles are respected and upheld; a Cameroon in which
peace and justice prevails and everyone enjoys equal opportunities; a
Cameroon in which individuals and communities are empowered to their
full potentials; a Cameroon in which there are support structures for
the poor, distressed, disabled, and underprivileged.
CCDHR was founded by
Eric Ngonji Njungwe in August 2006. His experience as a human rights
advocate in Cameroon and abroad was very instrumental in founding CCDHR
not just as a human rights organization, but one that adopts a
broad-based approach to the realization of human dignity. Eric strongly
believes that for human dignity to be sustained, the approach must be
inclusive. It is his view that human happiness cannot be determined by
any single factor, but is rather rooted in a collection of factors
necessary to foster an overall improvement in human dignity.
CCDHR also fills the need for an
organization that will galvanize the youths, by building a strong and
effective civil society on the belief that this is critical for the
democratic transformation needed in Cameroon. Since its establishment, CCDHR has maintained an open policy that gives due consideration to the
views of anyone that supports its mission and vision. You could
